What is the National Medical Commission and why is it important?

The National Medical Commission (NMC) is a statutory body in India that regulates medical education, medical professionals, and research. It's relevant to studying MBBS abroad because it sets guidelines and regulations for Indian students pursuing MBBS abroad and ensures they can practice medicine in India after returning.

To study MBBS abroad and have your degree recognized in India, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has established specific rules:

  • The degree program must be at least 54 months (4.5 years) long, plus a 12-month internship
  • The entire program, including clinical training and internship, must be completed at the same foreign medical institution
  • The course must be conducted in English
  • The curriculum should align with Indian medical education standards

Therefore, you must be very careful when selecting colleges to study MBBS abroad.
