Course registration for MBBS and BDS in Tamil Nadu begins today
The Directorate of Medical Education in Tamil Nadu has announced the commencement of the application process for undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses for the year 2023. Starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, interested candidates can register online for the courses. The official notification states that the prospectus and application forms can be accessed on the websites www.tnhealth.tn.gov.in and www.tnmedicalselection.org. The deadline for submitting applications is July 7.
According to officials, the decision to start the application process early was made in order to alleviate stress among students. The results were announced ten days ago, and the authorities want to assure students that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure the timely completion of the admission process.
However, there are still some uncertainties regarding the process. The dates for counselling, which will be conducted simultaneously with all-India counselling for the first time, have not yet been released by the Directorate-General of Health Sciences. Additionally, the selection committee is awaiting the release of new regulations from the central government. There is currently no information available regarding whether students can participate in both counselling processes or what will happen if a student is allotted seats in both.
Furthermore, the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University has not yet finalised the seat matrix, which specifies the number of available seats in each college. While the Directorate-General of Health Services has requested the state provide a list of non-domiciliary (management quota) seats in private institutions for common counselling, the state directorate has stated that it will handle admissions (through online mode) for government medical and dental colleges, government quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges, and management quota seats (including NRI seats) in self-financing medical and dental institutions.
